Niko Luoma’s solo exhibition „Adagissimo“ presents the work from the artist’s series Symmetrium and new works from the artist's series ARQ/QUI and The Garden, My Garden.

For the past twenty years, Niko Luoma has been internationally recognized for his work in photographic abstraction. He creates complex images by combining multiple exposures on a single negative, using light as a raw material to build layered compositions of color and form. His unique analog process involves principles of structure and space, his photographs reflect a deep conceptual exploration of the possibilities within the medium of photography.

Niko Luoma’s works are featured in international collections, including those of the Finnish National Gallery (Helsinki, FI), Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki, FI), Danish National Museum of Photography (Copenhagen, DK), Borusan Contemporary (Istanbul, TR), and the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection.

Niko Luoma was born in 1970 in Helsinki. He works in Helsinki and in Trieste.

After his studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (grad. 1998), and the New England School of Photography, Boston (grad. 1995), Luoma graduated with an MA from the department of photography at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Helsinki in 2003. He taught at Aalto University as a guest lecturer from 2003 to 2013 and started as a full-time lecturer in the department of photography in 2015. 

The limited edition catalogue Adagissimo” is published in conjuction with the current exhibition. 

*adagissimo – an Italian musical term, translates to “very slowly” or “extremly slow”
