Niko Luoma
Triestes ja Helsingis tegutsev Soome kunstnik.
Niko Luoma (snd. 1970 Helsingis) on kunstnik, kes elab ja töötab Helsingis ja Triestes. Ta õppis fotograafiat New England School of Photography’s (lõpetas 1995) ja Bostonis asuvas School of the Museum of Fine Arts’is (lõpetas 1998), ning omandas magistrikraadi fotograafia erialal Aalto Ülikooli Kunsti-, Disaini- ja Arhitektuurikoolis Helsingis 2003. aastal. Aastatel 2003–2013 töötas ta seal külalisõppejõuna, alates 2015. aastast on ta sama osakonna täiskohaga lektor.
Viimase kahekümne aasta jooksul on Niko Luoma olnud rahvusvahelises kunstiväljal üks olulisemaid fotograafilise abstraktsiooni eksperimenteerijaid. Tema ainulaadne käekiri põhineb süsteemsel töömeetodil, kus valgus on toormaterjaliks ja mitmekordne säritus loob ühele negatiivile kihilisi värvi- ja ruumitasandeid. Negatiivist saab protsessi jälg — teose enda loomise salvestis. Tema analoogmeetodil põhinev praktika kasutab juhust kui loovat impulssi, võimaldades liikumist tundmatusse. Teda mõjutavad korrastatus, ruumilised struktuurid, heliga seotud ideed, voolavus ja kiirus.
Luoma teoseid leidub mitmetes rahvusvahelistes kogudes, sealhulgas Soome Rahvusgaleriis (Helsingi), Kaasaegse Kunsti Muuseumis Kiasma (Helsingi), Taani Rahvuslikus Fotomuuseumis (Kopenhaagen) ja Borusan Contemporary kollektsioonis (Istanbul). Tema monograafiad And Time Is No Longer an Obstacle (Hatje Cantz, 2012) ja For Each Minute – Sixty-Five Seconds (Hatje Cantz, 2021) käsitlevad tema visuaalse keele arengut ja loomeprotsessi.
